Why Do I Give These Apps Away Instead of Selling Them?

That is a fair question, and there is a simple reason: I want these tools to be accessible to as many people in the flight simulation community as possible.

I could sell each app individually. I have chosen a different approach. The apps are offered as thank-you gifts for anyone who supports my work through a donation.

Nobody Is Priced Out

A donation lets people contribute whatever they feel is fair and whatever they can afford. There is no fixed price attached to an app, and nobody is excluded simply because they cannot afford another piece of software.

It Keeps Things Simple

There is no app store, no purchasing system to maintain, and no intermediary taking a portion of every sale. That means more of my time goes into what I actually enjoy — building and improving tools for the flight sim community.

Rather than

Pay $X and get this app.

I prefer

If you find my work useful and want to support it, donate what you feel is appropriate — and I will give you these apps as a thank-you.

Not Because the Work Has No Value

Quite the opposite. I have put a lot of time, development and effort into these apps. I simply believe that letting people decide what that work is worth is a better fit for the community I am building.

The Apps Are Worth More Together

Simple Flight Review is a better app because it can read the route you built in the planner and the radio log from your tablet. Those connections are the best thing I have made. Behind separate price tags, almost nobody would own all of them, and the best part of the work would go unused — so I would slowly start building each app as though the others did not exist.

The Planner and the Tracker Stay Free

They are the ones people find first, usually while trying to get a first flight off the ground. Nobody should hit a paywall at that moment. Both are complete applications with no locked features and no upgrade prompt, and that is not a promotion that ends.

Where Donations Go

The domain, the hosting, and the data that runs behind the planner and the tracker. They are also the reason there is a ninth app instead of a fourth.

It is my way of keeping the tools accessible, keeping the project independent, and giving something back to the flight sim community that has supported Simple Flight Planner.

There is no catch and no obligation. If you do not want to donate, you do not have to. If you do, I genuinely appreciate the support.

The Thank-You Gifts

Simple Flight Planner, Simple Flight Tracker and Simple Flight Academy are free to everyone, donation or not.
